Jenny Matthews RSW

I graduated from Edinburgh College of Art in 1986 with BA(Hons) in Drawing and Painting. Since then, I have been a professional artist exhibiting in galleries around the UK and abroad. I paint exclusively in watercolour, most usually of flowers and plants but also cityscapes, portraits and landscapes. Most of my time is spent in studio or plein air painting, and I also run my own watercolour classes in Edinburgh and teach occasional watercolour workshops further afield.

In 2007 and 2015 I won awards at the annual open competition at the Royal Watercolour Society (RWS), London and in 2016 and 2022 I was nominated for the biennial watercolour prize ‘Marche d’Acqua’, Fabriano, Italy.

Since 2016 I’ve been involved with the annual watercolour convention in Italy ‘FabrianoinAcquarello, and latterly have been the leader of the group of artists representing Scotland amongst the other 80 participating countries.

I live at the western extremity of Edinburgh where I also have my studio. My hobbies include swimming, cycling, walking, gardening and learning languages (I speak French and Italian).
