Donald M Paterson RSW

The background source of my work is related to a strong affinity with my roots in North West Scotland, more specifically the island of Skye.

Although it is the product of a combination of direct experiences, observations, memories, photographs from this area, each drawing, painting or construction is concerned with achieving a personally coherent and meaningful balance and the end result can sometimes be oblique, departing by varying degrees from the original source.  I rarely have a clear idea of how the finished work will look.

Mostly I work with water based media, sometimes with transparent watercolour on paper, but I also like to employ  various collage elements.

Family visits to France, Sweden and London also provide inspiration.
