The Rendezvous Gallery
Be taken on a journey through Latin America beginning with the vibrant, sultry streets of Cuba and riotous colours of Guatemala. Progressing south the tropics give way to an altogether more austere landscape in South America. The inhospitable high deserts of Bolivia stretch expansively to the horizon while in Patagonia the wind howls across glacial lagoons and ice-scoured mountains lie shrouded in mist and snow.
The drawings informing this exhibition were gathered over a ten month period of working, studying and travelling in Central and South America. Fragments of observations, encounters and a deep appreciation for the rugged wilderness filled numerous sketchbooks and folios. To walk and draw, often making multiple-day treks into remote and mountainous regions, became a way of life. A way of observing, questioning and searching for a way to describe the essence of experience. A way to imbue the work with a sense of place, exploration and the unknown beyond each bend in the trail.
The show will largely be presented in the gallery windows enabling viewing from outside with entry to the gallery in line with current regulations.
Liz will also be sharing insights to the work, her sketchbooks and travel diary online throughout the show at www.lizmyhill.com and on Instagram @lizmyhillartist
