Artists Statement

My work is the result of a journey. After travelling to Japan in 1998, I was inspired to explore a whole new type of iconography within my work. When I work, I donít think about what I do. I donít plan. I construct the shapes and layers. I like the cropping of a composition, the strong verticals and horizontals, the idea of creating something self-contained and enclosed. I love the richness of the materials, flat objects, superimposing visual elements to create three-dimensional effects and structures within structures. It is a journey I go through to get to that final piece.

Studied printmaking at the Glasgow School of Art from 1989 - 1993. After graduation started to exhibit at the RSA, RGI and RSW Annual Exhibitions. In 1998 received the RGI Exhibition Award, which led to my first one-man show at The RGI Kelly Gallery, Glasgow. In 1999 received the RSW Alexander Graham Munro Travel Award, which gave me the opportunity to travel throughout Japan in the summer of 1999. Currently exhibits throughout Britain and has had a one -man show at Panter & Hall, Mayfair, London and a two man show with my father Archibald Dunbar McIntosh at Thompsonís Gallery, Marylebone, London.
