Artists Statement

Began exhibiting in 1948 in the annual public Exhibitions of the RSA, SSA and RSW with some illustration commissions. Early work in both oils and watercolour and mostly landscape based but with frequent imaginative, figurative subjects and largely dependent upon where I happened to be all over Scotland, Tyneside in Northumbria , Edinburgh, the Borders and Cornwall. Since the 1960s I have painted extensively in France - Paris, the Seine, the Cote D'Azur and Normandy with much based on Chartres Cathedral and its arts. Since the 1970s I have exclusively painted in mixed media, watercolour on paper and thematically, deriving from many interests.
