Artists Statement

Since leaving the RCA in 1968 I've lived and worked in the Scottish Borders, as well as part-time lecturing at ECA until 1998. I now paint full-time at home and abroad and exhibit regularly. My work begins with observation of the natural world, its people, places and artefacts. My own responses to the process of ageing, to notions of memory and archetype, transforms that observation into a personal iconography. I use a wide variety of media, often layering images with glazes or washes, tissue, wax or print - a parallel complexity in the work to the world of my perception.
